University of Akron's Concrete Canoe Team

MSG-Cleveland is a proud annual sponsor for the University of Akron’s (UA) Concrete Canoe Team. The Team competes to design, build, showcase, and race a canoe made from lightweight concrete. UA has seen many successes over the years, including numerous top 10 finishes regionally and nationally! The Civil Engineering students involved in the 2019 competition will cast their canoe this weekend. Once cured, the canoe will be sanded and finished for entry in the Ohio Valley Student Conference Regional competition April 11-12 in Akron. Racing against teams from Kentucky, Ohio and Pennsylvania, the UA team hopes to advance to the ASCE National competition June 6-8 in Melbourne, Florida and bring home another national recognition. The annual competition provides the opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience and leadership skills as well as build awareness of the versatility and durability of concrete as a construction material and its application in the industry.
