Our Philosophy

The way MSG practices engineering is inherently geared toward creating safer, healthier, and greener spaces for our communities.
Our multidisciplinary approach bridges the gap between recurring, high-impact problems and beautiful, functional solutions. Objectives considered are:
- Using materials extracted, processed, and manufactured regionally to reduce the environmental impact of transportation
- Strict adherence to construction activity pollution prevention and reduction by controlling soil erosion, waterway sedimentation, and airborne dust generation
- Reusing and repurposing materials where applicable
- Incorporation of green infrastructure and LID methods
- Restrictions on construction machinery idling and summer working hours to reduce the carbon footprint produced by project construction
- Implementation of trenchless construction technology for utility line construction may greatly reduce the potential for construction debris-laden runoff
- Utilizing Cone Penetration Testing for in-situ soil inspections to prevent lengthy turnaround, transportation costs and impacts, and environmental disturbances
Project Highlights
Our team plans and designs the restoration of natural places disturbed by humans such as wetlands, stream corridors, mined areas, cemeteries, industrial complexes, and forested land. Our goal is to restore natural systems that support pollinators, encourage wildlife to return to the area, provide green ground coverage that helps reduce heat island effect, and integrate low impact development (LID) practices. We work hard to introduce these environmentally responsible solutions into planned unit developments (PUDs), parks and trails, commercial and industrial sites, and actuate neighborhood revitalization.

Sustainability Initiatives
MSG’s purpose to improve the quality of life is reinforced by our commitment to sustainability and the environment. We are a GreenSpot firm in the City of Columbus Green Initiative. While we work hard to enhance our environment through sustainable design for our clients, we also work to reduce our carbon footprint by recycling batteries, paper, electronics and other materials within the office, using recycled products, reducing the use of disposable products, and purchasing products in bulk.
