MSG welcomes James Welter, PE
James Welter, PE joins MSG as Senior Construction Team Leader in our Columbus, Ohio office. With nearly 37 years of experience, including 33 years with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Jim brings a wealth of knowledge in construction, structures, sampling, testing, materials, design, inspection, construction structural specifications, project management and administration.
Jim joins MSG to lead and administer construction projects, by coordinating with project team members, supervising and mentoring construction inspectors and engineers, ensuring construction activities meet quality standards, documenting compliance with specifications, and providing technical guidance for the FRA-70-13.10 Big Build Project-ODOT District 6, as well as other projects, as needed.
Jim has been the ODOT State Testing Engineer, and the ODOT Office of Construction Administration Structures Engineer, where he provided technical assistance on large bridge projects such as the FRA-62 Rich Street Bridge over the Scioto River, the LAW-93 Ironton-Russel Bridge over the Ohio River, the CUY-Fulton Road Bridge, and the CUY-90 Innerbelt Bridges over the Cuyahoga Valley. As an ODOT Project Engineer, he administered the FRA-62 Main Street Bridge over the Scioto River, the FRA-670 Downtown Reconstruction Project from SR 315 to Neil Avenue, the FRA-270 Worthington Section of the North Outerbelt Widening, and several other projects on the interstates around central Ohio. As a Consultant Construction Engineer, Jim administered Roadway Projects, such as the Sawmill Parkway Extension Project for the City of Delaware, the FRA-62-30.34 Roadway Improvement Project, (ODOT LPA) for the City of New Albany and helped administer the FRA-161-15.80 Major Reconstruction Project for ODOT District 6.

A Professional Engineer, Jim maintains a number of certifications reinforcing his expertise in coatings inspections, concrete, grouting, bridge inspection, soils and foundations and nuclear testing equipment, among others. He’s also held past positions with groups such as the ODOT Research Advisory Board, AASHTO Committee on Materials and Pavements, Transportation Research Board and others.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University and served two years in the US Navy Reserves. Jim resides in Columbus, Ohio.
