MSG Names Brian Geer as Chief Operations Officer!

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) has named Brian P. Geer, PE, as Chief Operations Officer (COO) of the firm, effective May 8, 2020. Geer is credited with establishing and growing the firm’s energy sector business. He is replacing Dean M. Niese, who has been named the firm’s new President and Chief Executive Officer.
Geer joined Mannik & Smith, Inc. in 1998, graduating from the University of Toledo in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He was named a principal and Vice President in 2005 and Senior Vice President in 2012. Geer also serves as an officer with the US Naval Reserves, Civil Engineering Corps. Lieutenant Commander Geer received his commission in 2009, deploying to Afghanistan in 2013-2014.
As leader of the firm’s Energy Business Sector, Geer is responsible for the planning and execution of projects in the oil and gas, power generation, renewable energy and energy-efficiency market areas. He ensures an understanding of client challenges and industry pressures and orients MSG’s workforce with the proper safety education and equipment, technical competencies and market understanding.

A native of Metamora, Ohio and a registered Professional Engineer, Geer was named Young Engineer of the Year in 2002 by the Toledo Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and former president of the Chapter. He is a member of the American Public Works Association, a member of the Detroit Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Veterans (AmVets). He also serves on the board of the Canton Community Foundation.
Geer resides in Temperance, Michigan with his wife, Tamara. They have three grown children, Lauren, Brianna and Elizabeth and two grandchildren, Hayden and Dawson.
