The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc.’s (MSG) Jeffrey Snyder, PE and Ibraheem Shunnar, PE were instructors at the Soil Mechanics, Bearing Capacity and Slope Stabilization Seminar presented by Halfmoon Education, Inc. on Thursday March 27th, 2014 at the Marriott at University Place in East Lansing, Michigan.
Mr. Snyder is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at MSG for transportation, commercial industrial and municipal projects in Michigan and Ohio. He provides analyses and recommendations for shallow and deep foundation systems, as well as landslide evaluation and remediation. Mr. Snyder earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University.
Mr. Shunnar is the Director of Engineering at MSG and has more than 20 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on design, construction, and redevelopment of landfills. He has an M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Mr. Shunnar was the project manager for the Fairlane Green redevelopment, winner of the 2008 National Phoenix Award.
The Seminar focused on exploring types of soil and learning investigation procedures; reviewing hydraulic and mechanical properties of soils and learning about stress and failure in soils; examining the bearing capacity of shallow foundations, piers and piles; understanding slope failures and the impact of surface and groundwater; and comparing slope stabilization methods, such as unloading and draining.
