ACEC Award Winner

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/M) (ACEC/Michigan) recently honored MSG during the association’s annual Engineering and Surveying Excellence Awards Gala. On March 8, design professionals and guests gathered at the Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum in Portage to recognize outstanding Michigan engineering and surveying projects from the past year. The ACEC/Michigan Awards Program recognizes outstanding efforts of professional design firms to solve clients’ needs through exceptional projects and offers the opportunity to showcase the year’s best engineering and surveying achievements to an audience of peers, clients and decision-makers at all levels.

MSG accepted the Engineering Honorable Conceptor Award for the East Riverfront Riverwalk – “Uniroyal Site” for Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and the Michigan Department of Transportation. The Uniroyal Site was previously a contaminated industrial site with a 300+ year history of development and re-use. The design for the 2,100 feet of riverfront included a structural walkway slab adjacent to the water, a river-side riprap buttress to the existing failed seawall systems, a multi-layered engineering cap on the water side below the riprap, stabilization of debris mounds, a new GLWA outfall and junction chamber (including re-use of 135-year-old timber piles), and aesthetic/textured curved concrete screen walls.
