Memorial Day Reflection - A Message from Brian Geer, PE, COO

It was ten years ago this month that I said goodbye to my friends at MSG and deployed with my Reserve Unit to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. MSG was very supportive of me through my deployment with care package after care package being sent for me and my fellow Sailors. There was a lot of pride in my MSG Family as the team flocked around the MSG box to see what they could grab! I was welcomed back in 2014 and transitioned back to our MSG Team.
Soon after returning, in September 2016, I attended the dedication of the City of Dearborn, MI Veteran’s Memorial (MSG was the civil designer for this project). Again, I was very proud of our MSG Team and the role we played. I have the same sense of pride in our role in the Fairfield Township Veterans Memorial. This project is being dedicated on June 3, 2023. Visit the Fairfield Township Veterans Memorial Facebook page for more information.
Memorial Day and these types of community memorials have a deeper meaning to me since that deployment experience. These memorials help remind us of the ideals and protections that our country aspires to provide.
As President Lincoln cites in the Gettysburg Address, “It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.” President Lincoln is speaking of the horrific loss of life at Gettysburg and of the struggle to sustain a country, but his words hold true today. This is why we at MSG take such pride in projects like those mentioned above.
These projects keep the memories alive of the brave individuals lost, and serve as permanent reminders of the struggle America has had to make it to today. Hopefully you are able to take a few minutes this Memorial Day to think of their sacrifice. We wish you a safe and relaxing Memorial Day and hope you get the chance to attend an event in your community or visit one of these memorials.
