Cultivating Cullen Park

Family, friends and staff of MSG's Maumee, Ohio, and Canton, Michigan, offices gathered at Cullen Park on Saturday to help the City of Toledo with some additional wetlands plantings. Environmental scientist Matt Horvat helped coordinate our volunteers, who worked with Toledo Zoo Teens volunteers and City of Toledo Landscape Architect, Steve Day, to plant hundreds of native wetland bulbs and plant plugs. Designed by MSG for the City and funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, the Cullen Park project helped to restore ecological services to the park. As part of the project, MSG designed green infrastructure such as vernal pools, sand filters, native plantings, habitat restoration, and bio-retention techniques to manage storm water run off and improve water quality as it flows into the Maumee River and Lake Erie.
