Detroit's Shinola Hotel featured in Afar Magazine
A great hotel needs a great exterior space! The international travel magazine, Afar, has featured Detroit’s Shinola Hotel as “a design-forward property that captures the Detroit zeitgeist.” Working with Bedrock Detroit and Kraemer Design Group, MSG designed the infrastructure surrounding the hotel including pedestrian-friendly alleyway and streetscape pavements, signal modifications, underground utilities, and curbline adjustments for valet parking. The project was especially challenging because the Shinola is a combination of two historic buildings —the former T.B. Rayl & Co. department and Singer sewing-machine stores—with three new annexes. Therefore, the site design had to balance new and existing finished floor elevations with varying roadway, sidewalk, and alleyway conditions.
